My work has evolved from merely creating an impression of the landscape of those places that inspire me, and whilst I am still drawn to those places with that special light that occurs where the land meets the sea or water, I have now arrived at a point where my interest is more in texture and colour rather than in form.

Whilst I start work with a loose idea of where I want to go, intuition, emotion and physical sensation take over and I find myself blissfully unaware of the direction a work will take, the result only slowly emerging during 'the making'. I will repeatedly reject and dismiss marks and processes as my conscious mind starts to assess the final visual form.

The images I create have become abstract in nature, and are defined by an observation of natural and organic forms in the landscape. These images find me striving to reflect my search for beauty, peace and stillness in an often chaotic world.

Recently completed works are intended to involve the viewer and I have tried to introduce an element of journey within them, with points of entry and departure. I try to reveal aesthetic appeal in unlikely places and ask the viewer to consider things otherwise ignored, and to 'feel' the surface with their eyes.

Abstraction is experiencing the ‘absence of subject' or the 'freedom from subject'. This eliminates the ‘security' of a recognisable form thus causing the viewer to involve their own imagination in resolving the image or, indeed, declining the 'challenge'.
